With the blogging world being bigger than ever, how can you make sure that you help your blog to stand out? If you want to make a career out of blogging and writing online, then being able to stand out and be the best blogger you can be, is going to pay off big time. Is it all easier said than done, though? Here are some steps to becoming a better blogger, especially if you’re looking to go pro.
Find a Niche
There are plenty of people that will tell you that you are the niche and that there is no need to do anything else. And while you are the content creator, if you want to stand out, then it is a good idea to have a niche for your blog. It could be lifestyle, which is quite general, or something more specific like business, cars, or travel, for example. Having a niche will give you a focus, and brands will know that your readers are there for specific content, so if they are a brand that fits, then they’ll want to work with you.

Content is King. Social Media is Queen
Once you have your niche and know what you want to write about, then the content that you produce is really going to the thing that people will be coming back for. If your content is dull, uninspiring, doesn’t entertain, or inform (whatever angle you have decided on), then people aren’t going to come back for more. So a focus should be on good quality content, rather than a post a day. Second, social media does play a role in blogging. Growing a following is going to help to get you paid work, as well as increase your readership. So get online and get social.
Know The Business
If you want to be a professional blogger, then you need to understand a little about the business side of things. Being able to work from home can be great, but you do still have to register as self-employed, or register a business, as you have to pay taxes. It can be a little confusing, but ignorance isn’t an excuse. If you’ve got an accountant friend, then great, ask them some questions. If not, it could be worth doing something like a bookkeeping course with AVADO learning as it can be done online, and will help with the business and self-employed part of blogging. Some brands will want to know your unique taxpayer reference number before working with you too, so there is no time like the present to get registered.
Site Security and Data Protection
When you have a blog that you earn money from, you are a business. So you need to take things like the security of your site seriously, as well as things like data protection. The recent GDPR has made stricter rules on the kind of information that you can store, as well as giving readers the rights to find it all out and opt out. So make sure that you are up to date with this kind of thing, as well as perhaps getting some business insurance. You’ll be a better blogger when you know the ins and outs of it all and are keeping things legal.
