The Children’s Society is offering an exciting opportunity for bloggers to join its successful blogging programme by blogging for the Seriously Awkward campaign, which is proudly supported by UK Bloggers. Working with a reputable charity brand can considerably increase and enhance a blogger’s reputation as well as giving them the chance to use their position to influence behaviour and help explain tricky issues to the public for a much-needed cause. The campaign is on the brink of making the real changes in the law that are needed to protect 16 and 17 year olds with the Government about to publish the Police and Criminal Justice Bill. The Children’s Society wants your help to call on the Government to change the law and is offering a fantastic package of benefits for those that get involved.
The Children’s Society is also welcoming bloggers for blogger challenges to inspire people to raise vital funds so the charity can support more children and young people. Bloggers can currently take a baking challenge to encourage people to host a Bake and Brew fundraising event. You can email blogging@childrenssociety.org.uk to find out more about these opportunities.

Several influential parenting and lifestyle bloggers are already backing the Seriously Awkward campaign with their blogs and on social media. The programme is open to bloggers who cover other in-depth topics like social work, education, equality and research or blogs dedicated to a specific area affecting older teenagers such as child sexual exploitation, housing, mental health and drug/alcohol abuse. Here is some of the activity by bloggers so far:
- YouTube star @GraceFVictory showed her support for the campaign on Twitter in the lead-up to a debate we secured in Parliament on the sexual exploitation of 16 and 17 year olds saying “You guys know that sexual exploitation of children is a subject close to my heart. I am so so happy that @childrensociety are going to Parliament to make serious changes as to how the issue is dealt with. I could not be more proud and happy.”
- Donna Navarro talked about how at 16-17 she felt lonely, confused and uncomfortable, not feeling like a child anymore but not feeling like an adult either.
- Thinking Parenting talked about delivering seminars to parents of teenagers and the unique hazards faced at the age of 16 and 17.
- Mummy Tries talked about being employed alongside other under-age girls where they were given alcohol and employers tried to take advantage of them, after leaving home at 15.
- Mojo Blogs shared some seriously awkward 16 year old memories and talked about a girl she knew at 16 who didn’t get the help she needed.
