Finnish Experiences to Have Before You Die

Finnish Experiences to Have Before You Die

Is Finland on your travel bucket list? If not, it certainly should be because Finland is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe, if not the world. From rugged cliffs to magical snow-covered national parks, wherever you are in Finland, there is beauty to be seen – there are also so pretty cool experiences that you can only really appreciate when you’re there.

With that in mind, here are a few reasons why you should add Finland to your bucket list. Make an effort to experience the following before you die and you won’t regret it for one second…

Have Brunch on an Icebreaker

Brunch is probably the best meal there is – it’s better than breakfast, not as heavy as lunch or dinner and often comes with booze – so what could be better than having brunch? Having brunch on the Sampo icebreaker as you travel on the Gulf of Bothnia seeing huge icebergs (you can even dive in with them if you like) that’s what!

Have Fun Under Midnight Sun

One of the most amazing natural experiences you can ever have on your travels is that of seeing midnight sun in Finland. In the summer from 12 June until 01 July the earth’s axis tilts as such that on the Arctic Circle, there are 24 hours of sunlight. You won’t get the full 24 hours in Finland, but you can definitely enjoy walking around Helsinki in absolute sunlight at midnight and it is one experience you are sure never to forget.

Finnish Experiences to Have Before You Die

Wonder at the Northern Lights

Stay at an ice hotel under the stars and wonder at the marvels of nature as you look up at the sky only to see that it has been turned brilliant shades of green, violet, orange and white amongst others. It’s a totally free light show that is more amazing than any fireworks you’ve ever seen, and one experience you are not going to want to miss out on before you shuffle off this mortal coil.

Enjoy the World’s Biggest Sauna

If you’re the type who loves nothing more than relaxing and you’re always looking for ways to take that relaxation further and reach peak comfort, then you are not going to want to miss out on the Perunka Spa Hotel, which is home to one of the biggest smoke saunas on the planet. You can even get covered in peat or Zumba in the sauna if you’re feeling a little more adventurous.

Compete in the Mölkky World Championship

The Mölkky World Championship is the place to go if you want to have a lot of fun and possibly obtain some glory and gloating rights over your friends. Mölkky is a game similar to Jenga where you are tasked with knocking down wooden blocks to obtain a certain number of points and there is nothing more Finnish than playing, so if you want to have the full Finland experience, you won’t want to pass up the opportunity.

Win at Wife carrying

If that isn’t your thing, maybe you’d prefer getting your glory at the Viking-inspired Wife Carrying World Championships instead? Just don’t drop her!
