Saving money can see hard, especially when you don’t have too much money left over at the end of the month, but there are a couple of ways to try and saving without it having such a huge impact on your life and these are five of my top tips to making saving easy.
1. Save the pennies.
There are a number of ways to do this if you are someone who pays with cash, put the pennies away once you get home, if you pay for most things with card then check with your bank, some offer a round up scheme where they will pop those pennies into a savings account of your choice. It is amazing how quickly it can all add up and you will most likely find you won’t miss those pennies at all.
2. Cut something out.
Think about the treats you buy each week and see if you can cut something out for example if you grab a drink on your way to work or when you go out, then try and cut it out. Those couple of pounds soon add up to large amounts and if you can’t completely cut it out, then add your drinks to your weekly shop as you are more likely to get deals on bulk buys.
3. Up-cycle.
Instead of always buying new, have a look at the things you already own and see if you can up-cycle them somehow and save some money, you never know just what you could do if you get those creative juices flowing.
4. Don’t buy things on credit if you can help it.
I know it can be tempting when you see a good deal and you can pay over time, but unless you are getting a 0% interest deal you may just find the amount you end up paying back is far more than the item you originally brought is worth, so take the money you would have been paying monthly off and save it until you can afford it outright.
5. Shop around.
When you need to buy something big make sure you shop around, the internet is your best friend when it comes to running comparisons and it also worth checking voucher websites as they maybe help you save just a little more and of course looking at cash back websites to see if you can earn a little back into your hand as well.
Of course once your savings are starting to boom you need to make sure they are safe, so shop around and look for those which will give you a good return on your pennies. Online providers such as Nutmeg can also make it harder for you to reach your pennies as you can’t just walk into the bank on the high street and withdraw on a whim and with offerings such as ISAs and pensions up for grabsĀ in one place, getting your savings on track couldn’t be easier.
What is your top tip for saving?
