Silver Serum review

Silver in my skincare? I was not entirely sure what to think about this…. I have seen some amazing stories and claims in the media about this product though..

Silver Serum is available from Skinshop and is priced at £12.95. This is what the site says:

Our revolutionary new Silver Serum is the first ‘smart’ anti-bacterial skin treatment. It contains a special silver ingredient that kills the bad bacteria while helping good skin bacteria.

Silver Serum helps reduce bacteria related infection & inflammation of skin conditions such as acne, acne rosacea, eczema and psoriasis. It’s the infection symptoms of these skin conditions that causes the most discomfort, rather than the initial cause.

The main target market for this product is people who have acne, acne rosacea, eczema and psoriasis.

I occasionally get eczema and get the very odd spot but not very frequently anymore. I tried this out when I had a patch of eczema. The instructions say to use before anything else which is something I struggled with because I usually moisturise religiously. To test it out fairly I used on it straight after cleansing.

It has a silver/ grey tinge to it and has the texture of a normal serum. You can feel a slight barrier on top of you skin after it’s dried. Usually I’d use a steroid cream and switch my moisturiser to something like A-Derma.I’m sorry to say Silver Serum didn’t help me. If anything my eczema was itching more than it usually would. For the first few days I tried it on its own with moisturiser on top. Then I tried using a steroid on top followed by moisturiser on top- quite a few steps I know…

After a week I stopped using the Silver Serum and used my steroid cream topped with moisturiser. It took a bit longer than a week to go completely.

Basically this really didn’t work for me. I have read you need to keep using the product to see results. Anyone who has had eczema will tell you that’s easier said than done when you know something else will do the job and do it fast.

Silver Serum may have better results for someone who suffers with acne or rosacea. I don’t suffer with either of those so I can’t comment. All I know is when eczema hits all I want to do is itch like a crazy lady so I need quick results.

Have you tried it? If so what did you think?

  1. Ooh I’ve heard about the benefits of silver in facial products before but as yet I haven’t tried it. Apparently you need to give it about 4 weeks to work but I totally understand why you stopped after a week if it wasn’t agreeing with you. xx

  2. This sounds really interesting but too bad you didn’t find much of a great use out of it! Could definitely be different for someone else though 🙂

  3. I’ve used a cream called Flamazine which has silver in, for when my episiotomy ruptured after my son’s birth. It helped a lot. But when I’ve used it for any eczema flares, it had no effect so I’m not at all surprised this brand of cream didn’t help that skin complaint.

  4. I can totally see why you wouldn’t carry on using it – I know when my own eczema flares up I want something which will treat it quickly (if not instantly!). Eczema isn’t something anyone wants to have patience with!

  5. I have never heard of Silver Serum before and at first it sounded interesting for eczema but thank you for your honest opinion. I wonder if it does work for acne and that x
