On Thursday 11th September women all over the country got together in church and school halls to work out together. It was a co-ordinated effort to set a new world record for the most people participating in a high intensity interval training (hiit) workout all at the same time. I took part and the club that I am part of were told to wear orange and to *glow.* You see the event was to launch a new fitness brand called Glow that is about ‘Food, Fitness and Friends’ using the tried and tested format of meeting once a week and promoting healthy eating and exercise.

So, we all learned the routine in class and then left families at home while we popped on our trainers and glow in the dark wrist bands to exercise under the watchful eye of Guinness World Record witnesses. At the appointed time we all did the routine and were videoed as proof that we had done it. It’s amazing how hyper you can get when you’re in a room full of people all wearing bright orange and whooping along with you. Some of us when a bit further with our costumes than others, but tutus appear to be the staple of the dressing up box of most active sorts nowadays. Big colourful afro wigs are optional 🙂

So, we all did the routine and exercised – safely – like we have all been taught to and our lovely Glow coaches Lesley and Linda kept our heart rates going and our energy levels up with a series of dances and some cool down stretches before the treat we had all been waiting for. The cupcake and champagne at the end !!

As I checked social media back at home – exhausted and in not a little pain – I shared photos of all of us leaping and saw various messages saying how much fun everyone had. Then around 11pm we found out we’d done it. The Glow Girls (and some men) had set a new world record !!
