Your blog is a powerful tool in business and there are a variety of ways in which you can use your blog to boost business. I am covering this here in a 10-part series and this week we’ll talk about one of my favorite parts: telling your brand story.
I have been blogging professionally since 1998 and it took me awhile to fully understand the importance of the brand story. As a copywriter, it’s my job to help businesses and brands understand how to communicate with clients and customers via text. The brand story is the first step in that process.
Your brand story is more than just a narrative. It’s more than just your business story. Your story is the complete picture of who or what your brand is – the facts, feelings, and stories that make you unique from anyone else doing the same thing. Part of your brand story isn’t even told yet because this is a living story.
This is why your blog is such a wonderful tool.
The business blog allows you to share your brand story – yesterday, today, and tomorrow. As your brand grows and your story expands, your blog will continue to share that story.
How amazing is that?
If you want to experience this for yourself, you need to know how to tell your brand story correctly. So let’s take a look at this.
Why Do You Need to Tell Your Story?
The heart and soul of your business is the connection you make with other people. When you get right down to it, that is really what people are buying. Your brand story is more than just some fancy words about who and what you are. It’s how you stand out among the many other businesses and brands out there competing for your clients and customers. It’s how you make connections with people who will be loyal to your brand.
So why do you need to tell your story?
Your story is what makes you stand out. It shows who you are. It differentiates you. It shows your value above others in the industry. It goes beyond just the utility and function of your product or service and also delves into the relationships you build with your customers.
What Makes Up Your Brand Story?
There are different elements that go into your brand story. In fact, there’s more to it than just your “about” section or posts you make on your blog. Colors and textures on your website, your logo, the business name itself, the people you choose to hire, and even the products and services you offer are all part of your brand story.
Every time you create content to promote your business – an ad, a Facebook post, or even a blog post – you’re telling a story. This is what marketing is all about. Good marketers tell great stories. The first and most important story your business should tell is your own brand story.
Now that you know the importance of your brand story, you can begin using your blog to help shape that story for your clients and customers.
What’s your story?

My brand story is that I never intended to have a brand in the first place. Over the years, it has turned into one and I now fiercely protect it wherever I go.
I can definitely see how brand story is important. I think it should be somewhat consistent and be unique to your brand.
Oh wow, this is something to think about. I really didn’t want to be a “brand” before but the more successful I got doing what I like I think I am doing ok.
That’s why it’s really important to choose wisely when finding brands to work with. Anything that’s going to shape your brand better be consistent with your values.
Wow, you have an impressive background – blogging since 1998!
I plan to stay tune to your 10-part blogger series! Thank you!
I can see how it would be helpful. And enjoyable too, for the reader.
