As the seasons change, we often find ourselves wanting to change things up around the home. There are two rooms we spend most of our time in when we are at home – the living room and the bedroom – and we spend most of the time in our bedroom asleep. The living room is the hub of most people’s homes and it is little wonder people are constantly seeking to update it. Here are some top tips on how you can update your own living room without too much effort or expense.
Revitalise Your Old Items
I bet if you took a look around your house, you would be able to find many items that have probably passed their best. However there’s no need to throw them away if there’s still some life in them. Just renew them into something else – just like we cut down our old jeans and make them into denim shorts or skirts, we can do the same with everyday homeware. The simplest of changes can make a room appear different. Sometimes all you need is a fresh coat of paint, sometimes you need to do a little bit more. By making these changes however, you give those items a whole new lease of life and your living room somewhat of a fresh look.
Invest In Some New Wallpaper
If you want to change the colour up in your living room, you can either paint the walls or invest in some new wallpaper. Strip your old wallpaper down and find some wallpaper you like – perhaps some Taskers Graham and Brown wallpaper – and get down to work. It is amazing what some new wallpaper can do for a room. Whether you want a plain colour or patterned, you are bound to find something you like.
Remember Your Lighting
Lighting is key when it comes to the look of a room – you may want to change your lighting depending on the season. Another thing to consider is perhaps buying a new lampshade for your lights too – this can sometimes make all the difference.
Add Some Colour
Whether you are doing it by changing up the walls or by adding some pretty new homeware to the room. Injecting some colour into a room can really make it take on a new look. We tend to veer towards the darker colours in the cold winter months, opting for the bright and beautiful colours as the spring and summer months head our way. This doesn’t need to be the case though – you can have colour all year round if you want. If you want to make some quick and simple updates that barely cost a thing then adding some colour is a surefire way to do this.
Declutter, Declutter, Declutter
Finally – and perhaps the most obvious one – declutter. It should be the first thing people think of when it comes to changing their living room around but people often never factor it in. Get rid of furniture that isn’t being used, banish the kids toys to their rightful storage, file paperwork away. It is amazing how different a room can look simply by putting some things away and getting rid of unused items – whether you sell them or take them to the charity shop. Of course, clutter can pile up so easily so it is important to keep on top of it to keep your living room looking as good as new.
Have you got any good ideas for updating your living room? What did you do the last time you changed your living room around?
