May Tech Blog Round-Up

Welcome to the May tech blog round-up. It’s a little late as I’ve been moving home but woohoo, it’s finally here!

Every month I’ll be asking bloggers to submit their tech related blog posts over in the UK Bloggers Facebook group and in the UK Blogger forums. If you’d like to be featured in June’s round-up just keep an eye out for those posts.

Some of my favourite tech stories this month came from Google’s I/O conference where they announced some nifty new gadgets, including Google Home – an small vase-like home assistant similar to Amazon’s Echo that can answer questions, manage home media like TV and music, control lighting, send messages to your phone and more.

IMAX announced that they will be opening six new virtual reality cinemas this year. Great news for those who would love to try out VR but don’t want to fork out the cash for a headset of their own.

My absolute favourite gadget of May though has to be the Pilot. Pilot is a hearing aid-like wearable device that auto detects languages in real-time and translates them directly in to the ear.

UK Tech Blogger Round-Up

Anca from Anca’s Lifestyle and Cat from Rock and Roll Pussycat wrote about their visits to Maker Faire: A Newcastle based science fair for inventors and hobbyists.

Check out Anca’s footage of the Lords of Lightening – a performance duo who “fight” with electric! Meanwhile cat captured some awesome photos and video, including one that made this Trekkie smile: A cosplayer dressed as a Borg from Star Trek!

Mel from The Diary of a Jewellery Lover wrote a great review of an exciting new chat app called Tengi. The compers among you will love it as it gives you the chance to win huge cash prizes.

Jenny from Midwife and Life checks out a useful app service for Mum’s to be called Ask the Midwife. A service that gives the user direct access to a midwife at any time of the day or night for a small charge.

Web-hosting is a topic that comes up frequently in the UK Bloggers Facebook group. If you’ve been considering a new host or maybe you’re a complete newbie and need more advice, you should check out Joanne’s blog post on choosing the right web host. Find it over on her blog, Joanne Dewberry.

Have you written a great tech blog post this month? Tell us about it in the comments below.

Enjoy the rest of the month and I’ll see you in June!

  1. Aww, thank you for including my post about Maker Faire. I’m going to look at Cat’s post about it, to see what she liked best.
