Christmas at The Snug in Hitchin

Good company, great food, Christmas crackers and all the trimmings are usually the ingredients for a great meal out during the festive season, and for Christmas at The Snug in Hitchin you get all that and a lot more.

Last week I (Stephanie from Merry Musing) had the pleasure of being invited down to sample the festive delights that the Snug has on offer, with their newly themed Christmas food and drink menu. From festive platters piled high with delicious nibbles and tasty cocktails to a festive burger and Egg Nog cheesecake, this is a fun twist on the traditional Christmas menu.

The venue itself is small and intimate but with a fun and cheeky vibe. For the tasting experience a group of us local food and lifestyle bloggers were treated to a selection of the key items on the Christmas menu. First came the sharing festive platters, these were filled with potato skins topped with turkey, cheese and caramelised onions, chicken wings marinated with a bourbon and cherry glaze, mini sausages in a honey and mustard glaze, a mini prawn cocktail, bacon and brie quesadillas, fig, wensleydale and cranberry skewers and chutney and brie bruschetta. I have to say this was all really tasty and perfect on a night out.

Next up was the main course of the Christmas burger. This is a homemade 7oz British Beef burger topped with turkey, cheddar cheese, smoked back bacon, bourbon and cherry sauce and pickles, with a side of pulled pork in a BBQ sauce and skinny fries. It was huge, but delicious and a great alternative to a traditional turkey dinner.

Before we got onto pudding, we had the chance to head behind the bar and mix together some gorgeous Christmas cocktails. My favourite of which was the Mince Pie Martini. It seemed pretty easy to make, just mix 10ml brandy, 10ml of apple schnapps, 10ml of cassis with 10ml Goldschlager and 50ml of apple juice together. Then shake all the ingredients and strain into a martini glass. Add a cinnamon stick and voilà, you have a mince pie martini.

We finished the evening with my favourite course, dessert. Terry’s Chocolate Orange is my guilty pleasure, and at The Snug you can pick up a Terry’s Chocolate Orange Sundae, which is a combination of vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce layered with crushed chocolate orange pieces and topped with whipped cream. In a word, it was amazing. There was also a tasty looking Egg Nog cheesecake on offer for those not wanting to be tempted by Terry’s Chocolate Orange.

I had a great time at the event and one of the best things about the Christmas packages on offer at The Snug is that when you book a table, you also get a Christmas party pack that includes a blow up penguin, ski goggles and a host of other Christmas themed items to add a bit of festive spirit to your pictures.

I can’t recommend the Snug highly enough and if you’re looking for a Christmas get together with the girls, or a sit down meal with the family, then head on over to the Snug’s website to see what deals they have on offer.
